Focus on Manning Canning

— by Peter

In honour of Valentine’s Day, I wanted to talk about someone’s devotion and love of cooking and canning.

Christine Manning is one of the vendors at our Saturday Market. Christine started Manning Canning just over a year ago and she is passionate about her products. Many of her canning recipes have come with love from her Nona and her mother. Growing vegetables and preserving them for the winter was part of life growing up in Alberta. Today, Christine produces well over a dozen different products including jams, jellies, marmalades and various pickled items.

In addition to holding down a full-time Monday-to-Friday job, Christine also provides in-home Private Preserving Classes. In advance of your in-home class, Christine discusses what you would like to make and then she brings everything that is needed: fruits, vegetables, pots, knives, sugar, spices, herbs and canning jars.

It’s definitely a hands-on class with the participants doing all the chopping, cooking, sterilizing and canning:

Everyone in the group enjoyed themselves and were hands-on in in the entire process:

You can see the love and the passion that goes into every one of Christine’s products:

Here is a brief highlight video

Think of these classes as a unique gift for a group of friends for Christmas, as a prelude to a dinner party, or even as an alternative to a traditional bridal shower. For more information, please contact Christine at: and you can follow her on Twitter:
